Rosso Mozzarella

Petaluma, California

Design Challenge:

To transform a new shell space into a hip, lively pizzeria and mozzarella bar that complements a downtown theater-focused development.

Physical Context:

Situated in the theater district of downtown Petaluma, the restaurant occupies a unique corner location with prominent visibility along bustling Petaluma Boulevard and a charming interior courtyard on the opposite side.

Solution:

Rosso Pizzeria and Mozzarella Bar takes full advantage of its prime corner position with expansive windows that invite natural light and provide views from interior seating while connecting seamlessly to the adjacent courtyard with ample outdoor dining. The design embraces an industrial modern aesthetic, featuring exposed steel beams, rough-sawn wood, and galvanized metal accents. Custom artwork by a local graphic artist enhances the space, displayed on large roll-down shades and adding a playful touch to areas like the uniquely adorned bathroom signage. The result is a stylish, approachable restaurant that reflects the energy of its vibrant downtown setting.
