Design Challenge:

‍The project began as a remodel to address customer circulation congestion. However, during construction, a fire caused significant interior damage, requiring a complete restoration. Our task was to recreate the charm and special character of this revered bakery.

Physical Context:

‍Located in the heart of Yountville, California, Bouchon Bakery is a beloved destination for both locals and tourists from around the world. Adjacent to Bouchon Bistro, one of Thomas Keller’s renowned restaurants, the bakery is an essential part of the community’s culinary fabric.

Solution:

‍The building’s exterior was carefully restored to its original quaint and unpretentious style, preserving its timeless appeal. Inside, the bakery was meticulously reimagined with exceptional attention to detail, from the beautifully crafted retail sales floor to the functional back-of-house baking facilities. Large interior windows provide customers with a behind-the-scenes view of the bread ovens in action, while thoughtfully designed display cases showcase the daily-made, artisanal baked goods. Restoring this local treasure was a true pleasure and honor.
